Santos Ltd, established in 1954 and headquartered in Adelaide, Australia, is a leading energy company engaged in the exploration, production, and distribution of oil and natural gas. The company's portfolio includes operations across Australia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, and Alaska, focusing on both conventional and unconventional resources. Santos is committed to delivering reliable, affordable energy, and is actively investing in lower-carbon initiatives, including carbon capture and storage (CCS) and the development of clean fuels. With a strong emphasis on safety, sustainability, and innovation, Santos plays a pivotal role in the evolving global energy landscape.
Santos’ Moomba Carbon Capture and Storage project in South Australia’s Cooper Basin started up in October 2024 and at year-end had already stored 340,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent (CO2e).
The scope of the MOU is to assess potential decarbonisation opportunities by working jointly to link heavy CO2 emitters and/or CO2 import locations to the Santos-operated CCS facility in Moomba, South Australia.
Santos, through its new energies business Santos Energy Solutions, with support from Tokyo Gas, will evaluate the potential to produce e-methane for export to Japan, leveraging extensive existing infrastructure.
