Equinor, Aker BP, and Vår Energi have formed a strategic exploration collaboration to target the largest remaining hydrocarbon opportunities on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). The partnership aims to unlock major resources capable of supporting new standalone field developments, maintaining energy supplies to Europe, and securing long-term value creation.

The technical approach pools subsurface datasets, advanced geophysical technologies, and drilling capacity across the three companies to de-risk high-impact geological plays. Responsibilities and operational commitments are shared jointly across the alliance:
Equinor, Aker BP, and Vår Energi jointly contribute proprietary exploration data, subsurface modeling expertise, technological tools, and drilling capacity to evaluate high-grade prospects.
The Alliance will collaboratively mature, test, and co-fund high-risk exploration campaigns across selected prospective acreage on the NCS.
At a system level, the partners will evaluate regional seismic, stratigraphic, and reservoir data to identify high-probability play concepts capable of supporting standalone production facilities. Combining exploration portfolios allows the consortium to high-grade prospects, accelerate decision-making cycles, and deploy advanced imaging and evaluation technologies across complex reservoirs.
